Saunders sounds familiar, his work was featured in the eight part Examiner series about the Troyville Mounds in Jonesville, LA during 2010. Much of his career has become focused on the preservation and idea of Troyville Mounds. The articles described the architecture and cultural practices of Troyville Mounds which are akin to that regarding the Chontal Mayas inside the coastal parts of Tamaulipas and Veracruz States in Mexico. The series stated the similarities suggested contacts with Mexico. At some time with the articles' publication, Saunders would not go along with that interpretation.
